ACT: Article Club Wrap-up


Last Thursday night some individuals with an interest in Museums, Archives and Libraries gathered to discuss an article called Artefacts and archives: Considering cross-collection knowledge networks in museums. It was a merry band with beer in hand that, as the article suggested, explored how collections in various cultural institutions have become decontextualised. Through no fault of our own GLAM (Gallery, Library, Archive, Museums) professionals can’t always tell the full story of the artefacts in their care, this is because the way we separate artefacts from letters, journals or photos (museums from archives) means we don’t readily have the information available to make those connections in our collections.

Vic event: Melbourne Makerspace workshop

Come visit Connected Community Hackerspace in Hawthorn with your fellow LIS students and new graduates!

Our fellow ALIA New Grad member Jennifer Strover is taking us on the tour. It’s a great chance to find out how a makerspace works, who’s involved and what people are creating (and get yourself educated for the future robot wars…..) 

Makerspaces are increasingly a hot topic for Australian public libraries, so this is the perfect time to find out what they are all about. Not sure what a makerspace is? Check out this quick intro from our friends in the USA!

Potluck Picnic – Brisbane

Calling all Queensland students and new grads!
Come celebrate (or mourn?) the end of Summer and the beginning of a new semester with us at the ALIA S&NG Potluck Picnic! Mingle with friends, colleagues and fellow students and enjoy some al fresco cool drinks and picnic treats.
