HOBART: Employability Seminar, 29 May 2013

Library jobs are far and few between in Tasmania. How can you transfer your library qualifications and skills into other employment sectors? Do you need help in preparing your resumes? How about answering those elusive selection criteria questions?

The ALIA New Grads Group (Tas) is proud to present two guest speakers from Tasmania’s leading HR company – Searson Buck. We are fortunate to have their experienced career transition specialists Simone Ashby & Emma Ring to discuss career opportunities in the current job market and how you can transfer your array of skills to gain that perfect job!

Topic: Market Ready

The presentation components include:
•            Career reflections in a changing environment;
•            Resume preparation;
•            Addressing Selection Criteria.

Market Ready is designed to give people the tools they need to get ready to enter the employment market, either for the first time or re-entering.

Numbers are limited so book now: we need a minimum of 10 people to make this event happen and a maximum of 25

Hobart: Library tour of the Hutchins School

Want to see a top school library and more?! Well here’s you chance to visit one of the best school libraries in Tasmania.

The Hutchins School has 3 libraries that cater for the information needs of the school’s teaching and learning programs:

  • Nettlefold Library
  • Stephens Library
  • Early Learning Centre Library

Your visit will also include a guided tour of the Hutchins Archives & Heritage Collection (Museum & Archives).

Here are the details:

  • Where: Hutchins School, Nelson Road Sandy Bay, (Meet and register at the main office. Available parking on Nelson’s Rd or Churchill Ave)
  • Time: 3.15pm for a 3.30pm start, finishing at 4.30pm
  • Date: Friday, 12th October 2012
  • Cost: FREE (Light refreshments provided)

There will be a chance to network and socialise after the tour at the Wrest Point Casino (3 minute drive from the school). Looking forward to seeing you there and then!

HOBART: Interview Technique Workshop – Change of Venue

How To Address Selection Criteria Workshop

  • ·Do you want to secure your first job in the library/information sector OR get that job that utilises your skill base in roles across all sectors?
  • ·Are you frustrated by your current job search?
  • ·Are your current selection criteria letting you down?
  • ·Do you know what addressing selection criteria mean and what the objective of doing so is?

If you answered yes to all of these, rest assured we are here to help! The ALIA New Grads Group in Tasmania will be holding a Selection Criteria Workshop for those struggling to make sense of it all!!

We are lucky to have Garry Conroy-Cooper, manager at Launceston LINC [LINC Tasmania www.linc.tas.gov.au] who has had extensive knowledge and experience in Australia wide recruitment in our industry and human resource management, to host this two-hour workshop. You will learn how to write effective responses to selection criteria, attract more interviews and communicate your skills effectively. Please bring along examples of criteria that you thought were difficult to address or were unsure how to approach, examples of the documents you wrote addressing selection criteria and we will discuss these at the workshop.

You do not need to be a student or a new graduate to come – EVERYONE is welcome!
