LGBTQIA+ Inclusion (02/08/2022)

Want to catch up on the conversation from the Tuesday 2 August #AusLibChat? Check out the Wakelet.

This month we are partnering with ALIA’s newest group, ALIA Rainbow.

ALIA Rainbow and have been meeting monthly since the success of the first industry float in this year’s Mardi Gras. The group aims to facilitate networking, support professional development and resources for LGBTQIA+ library people and allies. We are looking forward to collaborating with this to discuss LGBTQIA+ Inclusion

  1. What specific things does your library do to create a welcoming and inclusive space for LGBTQIA+ communities? For example, if your library celebrates days like IDAHOBIT and Wear It Purple Day, tell us what you do.
  1. What barriers do you think LGBTQIA+ people face when visiting libraries (both in person and online)? What more could libraries be doing, especially in terms of visibility?
  1. Do you think we need more data collection around LGBTQIA+ library staff and/or library communities? What would the benefits be? What concerns might there be?
  1. What topics for professional learning around LGBTQIA+ matters would you find helpful – both personally and professionally?
  2. What are your favourite LGBTQIA+ resources – picture books, novels, movies, archives, organisations, institutions, curriculum, websites, people…? Please share!
